ZIMBABWE - country chapter (Mugabe, Francis / Thomas, Timothy / Hachigonta, Sepo / Sibanda, Lindiwe IFPRI)

Although there has been extensive research in Zimbabwe on the impacts of climate change on crop yields, there are very few data on the broader economic impacts of climate change on the agricultural sector. The objective of this text is to help policymakers, researchers, and country negotiators better understand and anticipate the likely impacts of climate change on agriculture and on vulnerable households in Zimbabwe, given that about 70 percent of the Zimbabwean population is dependent on rainfed agriculture and the sector contributes between 15 and 20 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
